GRAND THEATRE CROWNS THE FIRST WOLVERHAMPTON SOUTH ASIAN DANCE CHAMPION!

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre has crowned the first Wolverhampton South Asian Dance Champion at the inaugural South Asian Dance Competition, JUST NAACH!

Winners Ultimate Bhangra by Parambeer Samrai took the title in a close contest with Dancing Queens as runner up. On the evening, a range of local dynamic dance acts competed including Jodi Dancers, Colton Hills Community School, Avneet Kaur and Aaja Nachle Let’s Dance.

The live celebration of South Asian Dance in Wolverhampton and The Black Country will be hosted by Manpreet Darroch. The panel of judges were Artistic Director of award-winning Jaivant Patel Dance – Jaivant Patel, Director of Operations and Development at Creative Black Country Sajida Carr, GBSLEP Director of Communications and External Affairs and Freelance Broadcaster Satnam Rana and Wolverhampton Grand Theatre’s Associate Director of Development & Communications Vicky Price.

The opening act was Wolverhampton based BACK2BACK. BACK2BACK and the closing act were Bollywood Dreams Dancers.

Bollywood, Bhangra, Regional Folk, Indian Classical and South Asian Fusion are just some of the styles that make up the wonderful world of South Asian Dance. Winners Ultimate Bhangra took home 50 tickets to the pantomime Aladdin at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre in December as well as a winner’s trophy.

We thoroughly enjoyed showcasing the best in South Asian Dance from Wolverhampton and Black Country talent at the inaugural event, Just Naach. We are thrilled to have welcomed so many performers and audience members, new and existing, to Grand Theatre.”
